XREAL UltraWide or 3D not working? Why it happens and how to fix it

UltraWide or 3D Mode won't turn on, or switches itself off? On XREAL glasses, some modes cancel each other and your device has to support them. Here's the fix.

You picked UltraWide or 3D on your XREAL glasses and nothing happened. Or it worked for a minute, then switched off by itself. Usually nothing's broken. Either another mode turned it off, or your device can't send the picture that mode needs. Here's how to tell which, and how to fix it.

Note

We haven't reproduced these problems on our own glasses yet. This fix uses XREAL's manuals for the 1 Pro+ and the One series, checked November 5, 2026.

The quick checklist

  1. Turn off the mode that's in the way. Some modes can't run together, and the newest one wins.
  2. Check your device. UltraWide needs a device that can send an ultra-wide picture. Consoles and iPhones can't.
  3. On a computer, extend instead of mirroring. A mirrored screen keeps your laptop's shape.
  4. Match the 3D setting to the video. SBS videos need Full SBS or Half SBS, whichever matches the file.
  5. Give it a few seconds. The screen can go black briefly while the glasses switch.
  6. Update your firmware. XREAL says REAL 3D needs the latest firmware on the One series.

Modes that switch each other off

Start here if you have a 1 Pro+. XREAL's manual says 3D Mode, UltraWide Mode and Side View can't stay on together. AI HDR can't run with any of them, or with the Reading display mode. Whichever you pick last wins, and the glasses switch the other one off without a warning.

So if UltraWide keeps vanishing, check whether you, or a shortcut button, turned on 3D or AI HDR after it. On a 1 Pro+, holding the Quick button toggles AI HDR by default, so a long press can knock out UltraWide.

On the One, One Pro and 1S, XREAL's manual doesn't list the same conflicts. It does say that on the 1S, turning on 3D Mode in UltraWide keeps the picture at 1080p.

Gestures and 3D don't mix either. If you use gesture control with the XREAL Eye, turning on 3D Mode switches gestures off, and turning on gestures exits 3D Mode. More in our XREAL gesture control guide.

Starts in UltraWide every time? Check the Laboratory menu. A Default UltraWide setting makes the glasses enter UltraWide each time they connect. On the 1 Pro+, it's under Settings, then General, then Laboratory. On the One series, it's at the end of the Other menu.

UltraWide needs a device that supports it

UltraWide Mode only works when your device sends a picture in that shape. XREAL's One series manual lists which devices usually can.

Usually worksUsually doesn't
Windows PCs and Windows handheldsiPhone
Mac computersRegular Android phones
iPadNintendo Switch
Steam Deck, with extra stepsXbox
Samsung DeX and Huawei's desktop modePlayStation
Some Android phones with a desktop mode

The 1 Pro+ manual puts it more simply. The source device has to accept the format you pick.

Pick the right shape. You get three choices: 21:9, 32:9 and 16:18. XREAL says 21:9 works with more devices and games than 32:9, which asks more of your device. Samsung phones can use 21:9 straight away in DeX mode. 16:18 is a tall screen for scrolling and multitasking.

On a laptop or desktop

Set the glasses as an extended display, not a mirrored one. XREAL says a mirrored screen keeps the same shape as your main screen, so UltraWide may not show up at all. Our Windows ultrawide guide walks through the display settings.

On a Steam Deck

  1. Turn on UltraWide on the glasses. On a 1 Pro+, pick Spatial Screen, then UltraWide Mode, then 32:9.
  2. Open the Steam Deck's display settings for the external display.
  3. Turn off automatic resolution.
  4. Pick 3840 × 1080, then wait for the picture to come back.

This only widens the Deck's own menus. Each game has its own display settings, and it has to support ultra-wide resolutions. If a game doesn't, XREAL suggests turning UltraWide off on the glasses.

3D won't look right

XREAL glasses have two kinds of 3D, and they're easy to mix up.

REAL 3D turns regular 2D video and games into 3D on the glasses. Double-click X, then pick Spatial Screen, 3D Mode and REAL 3D. On a 1 Pro+, you'll see a rights notice to confirm first. To stop, go back to 3D Mode and pick 2D. On the One series, update your firmware first. XREAL says REAL 3D needs the latest version.

SBS 3D is for videos that were made in 3D, with a picture for each eye side by side. Pick the setting that matches the file:

Video formatTypical resolutionSetting to pick
Full SBS3840 × 1080Full SBS (3D Full SBS on a 1 Pro+)
Half SBS1920 × 1080Half SBS (3D Half SBS on a 1 Pro+)

Then play the video full screen. If the picture stays split or looks stretched, the setting doesn't match the file, or your video player is changing the shape. XREAL's Beam Pro is the exception. Its built-in player handles 3D files without you turning on 3D Mode at all.

Too intense? On the One series, the 3D Effect setting has four levels: Soft, Natural, Enhanced and Furious. XREAL says stronger levels can add distortion, heat and the odd dropped frame. It also says REAL 3D isn't meant for documents or reading text.

The screen goes black when you switch

On a 1 Pro+, turning on AI HDR, UltraWide or 3D can blank the screen for a few seconds while the glasses rebuild the video link. Wait for the picture to come back before you unplug anything. If it doesn't return, work through our XREAL black screen fix.

Still not working?

  • Check the resolution and refresh rate. XREAL says a mode can be unavailable when your device, adapter, resolution or refresh rate doesn't meet its needs. On a 1 Pro+, AI HDR only works with 60 Hz or 90 Hz input.
  • Update the firmware. Our XREAL firmware log shows how, and what each update fixed. A July 2026 One Pro update, for example, fixed black screens and stutter in REAL 3D.
  • On a console? UltraWide isn't an option there. Here's what changes on a PS5 or Xbox.
  • Contact XREAL Support. Note your device, its software version, any adapter, the mode you picked and your firmware version first.
