Android XR glasses with a screen: what's coming and when
Google and Samsung's first Android XR glasses have no screen. Display models are due in 2027 at the earliest. Here's what's known and what to buy now.
Android XR is Google's software for headsets and glasses. It's already on sale in two forms: Samsung's Galaxy XR headset and the XREAL Aura glasses. The kind most people are waiting for is the next one: everyday glasses from Google and Samsung with a screen built into the lens. Those are coming, just not soon.

What Google said at I/O
At Google I/O on May 19, 2026, Google and Samsung previewed their first Android XR glasses. Gentle Monster and Warby Parker are designing the styles, and 9to5Google reports the first collections arrive in fall 2026.
Those first pairs work with your phone and Gemini, Google's AI assistant. The preview showed walking directions, live translation, hands-free photos and summaries of your texts. Android Authority calls them audio-only. There's no display.
The versions with a display come later. According to 9to5Google, Google said at I/O that they're coming sometime in 2027. Android Authority reported that Google strongly implied none would reach stores before 2027 at the earliest.
Why the first wave isn't for us
WornXR covers glasses with a screen you can watch, work or game on. Glasses without a display are fun, but there's nothing to set up and nothing to plug your Steam Deck into. We skip them, just like Ray-Ban Meta.
Will the display glasses replace AR glasses?
Probably not, at least not at first. Android Authority describes the display versions as offering "tiny in-lens visual overlays." Think directions, captions and notifications floating in your view.
That's a different job from display glasses like the XREAL 1S or VITURE Luma. Those put a big virtual screen in front of you for movies, games and work. If that's what you want, you don't need to wait for 2027.
