The XREAL Aura is the first pair of glasses to run Android XR, Google's platform for headsets and glasses. It works differently from most glasses on this site. Instead of borrowing your phone's brains, it comes with its own pocket computer, called a puck. Orders opened on October 28, 2026, and the first units ship in mid-November.

Paid the old price? XREAL is refunding the difference. Here's who qualifies and when the money comes back.

What's in the box

XREAL's FAQ lists the glasses, the puck, a glasses cable, a charging cable, a carrying case, a belt clip, three nose pads (S, M and L), an Optical Insert Frame for prescription lenses and a cleaning cloth.

The glasses weigh 95 g. The puck weighs 265 g, so plan on the belt clip or a pocket. The glasses come in two sizes, based on the distance between your pupils:

  • Medium: 60 to 66 mm
  • Large: 66 to 72 mm

The key specs

  • Screens: 1920×1200 per eye, up to 120Hz and up to 1,050 nits
  • Field of view: 70°, wider than any tethered pair in our checker
  • Tracking: 6DoF from cameras on the frame, plus hand tracking. Pinch to select, pinch and drag to move windows.
  • Dimming: five levels, set by hand or automatically
  • Puck: Snapdragon Reality Elite chip and a 4,455 mAh battery

XREAL says the puck lasts 3 to 4 hours in typical use. You can charge it while you use it, from a USB-PD or PPS charger of up to 57W.

What plugs into it

You don't need another device at all. The puck runs Android XR apps and Google Play apps on its own. But it can also show another device's screen, which is the part most of our readers care about.

The puck's left port, the Charging Port, takes video over USB-C. XREAL's FAQ lists:

  • MacBooks
  • Windows laptops whose USB-C port carries video
  • Chromebooks
  • Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck and ROG Ally
  • Some Android phones

iPhones, desktop PCs and Mac desktops aren't on the list. Use the cable from the box, too. XREAL says third-party charging cables can't carry the video.

Want to skip the puck? The glasses work as a plain display with devices that send video over USB-C. You lose the Android XR features, like hand tracking and spatial apps.

Prescriptions

The Optical Insert Frame comes in the box. XREAL sells the lenses for it, and its lens page lists -10.00 to +4.00, with astigmatism. Contacts work too.

Add-ons

XREAL sells two Aura accessories of its own, according to Road to VR:

  • Game controller, $99. Made with GameSir, with a Gemini button and a charging dock.
  • Wireless keyboard, $79. A foldable keyboard for working in several windows.

Any Bluetooth keyboard, mouse or game controller works as well. XREAL names PlayStation and Xbox controllers.

Should you buy one now?

The Aura makes the most sense if you want a big screen with no laptop in your bag. It runs apps on its own and can mirror a laptop when you need one.

Skip it if you just want a giant screen for your phone or handheld. Tethered glasses do that for a fraction of the price. Our Steam Deck picks start at the budget tier, and our best glasses for flights covers long trips.

A few more things to know first:

  • You need a Google account. XREAL says setup can't be skipped without one.
  • It's built for sitting down. XREAL says it's designed for indoor, seated use. Don't wear it while walking in traffic, cycling or driving.
  • It isn't water resistant.
