Meta showed off its VR Glasses at Connect on September 23, 2026. You might know them by their code name, Project Phoenix. They're a lighter take on a VR headset: glasses-shaped goggles on your face, with the computer and battery in a puck you carry. They go on sale in spring 2027.

What Meta has confirmed

These details come from Meta's announcement, as reported by Road to VR.

  • Weight. About 100 g on your face. The puck weighs about 300 g and connects with an optical cable.
  • Screens. Micro-OLED, 2,412 × 2,288 per eye, up to 120Hz.
  • Field of view. 70° across and 66° tall, or 88° measured corner to corner.
  • Chip and storage. A Snapdragon Reality Elite chip with 12GB of RAM. You get 128GB of storage plus a microSD slot for cards up to 1TB. No card comes in the box.
  • Battery. Meta claims 3 or more hours of mixed use. A 45W USB-C charger is included, and the puck charges while you use it.
  • Controls. Your eyes, your hands and your voice. No controllers come in the box, but Meta's Touch Plus controllers work. You can buy them separately or borrow the pair from a Quest 3 or 3S.
  • Apps. Same software and store as the Quest, so the Quest library comes along. Meta says 75+ games and apps will work with hand gestures alone.
  • Fit. Two frame sizes, sold separately, and lens spacing that adjusts from 56 to 70 mm.
  • Prescriptions. Inserts through Meta's partner Zenni Optical. No price yet.

Will it work with your Steam Deck or laptop?

This is the big question for us, and the early signs are good.

Meta's developer documentation lists a DisplayPort input on the puck, MIXED reports. Meta describes it for use "as a Mac, Windows, or console display." Road to VR adds that it takes video over USB-C, the same DisplayPort Alt Mode most AR glasses use. There's wireless desktop streaming from a Mac, PC or phone too.

What Meta hasn't said yet:

  • The highest resolution and refresh rate the input accepts
  • Which consoles and handhelds it has tested
  • Whether HDMI-only consoles need an adapter, the way they do with most glasses today

Until someone tests it, treat this as a spec on a page, not a promise. We'll add it to the compatibility checker once there are confirmed pairings.

Meta VR Glasses vs XREAL Aura

Both put the computer in your pocket, and both cost over $1,000. They're built for different things, though.

The Aura is see-through, so you see the room through the lenses. Meta's glasses block your view and show the room through cameras instead. That's how VR headsets work, just in a much smaller frame. For the Aura's details, see our XREAL Aura tracker.

What to buy while you wait

Spring 2027 is months away, and $1,299.99 is a lot. If you want a big screen for your phone, laptop or handheld now, tethered AR glasses do that for far less:

What we're watching

  • An exact release date and when preorders open
  • How much the Zenni prescription inserts will cost
  • Real-world limits of the DisplayPort input
  • Which countries get it first. Road to VR lists 25 target countries, but Meta hasn't confirmed them.
