The URXR One is a 93 g pair of glasses from Unseen Reality, a young company in Mountain View, California. It's built differently from most glasses on this site. You don't look through the lenses. Cameras on the front show you the room on two sharp screens instead. That's called video passthrough.

There's no battery and no computer inside. Your laptop, phone or handheld does the work over one USB-C cable. The Kickstarter raised about $1.3 million from more than 1,500 backers, and the first test shipments were set to start on October 30, 2026.

Backed it? Here's what backers need to know right now, from shipping order to the US sales tax fix.

What it is, and what it isn't

Think of it as a monitor you wear. You plug it into a device that sends video over USB-C, and a big screen appears in front of you. It stays pinned in place as you turn your head.

A few things set it apart:

  • Pancake lenses, like a VR headset. XREAL and VITURE glasses use see-through prisms instead.
  • Passthrough cameras. They show the room at about 2.5K per eye. Unseen Reality says the delay is under 10 ms.
  • Tracking on the glasses. A chip in the frame handles 3DoF, 6DoF and hand tracking, so your device just sends a picture. UploadVR names it as the GravityXR G-X100.
  • No speakers. Sound comes from your device, so plug your earbuds into that.

It isn't a standalone headset. It can't run apps on its own, and SteamVR isn't supported at launch. It doesn't run Android XR either.

The key specs

  • Screens: 2448×2064 per eye, micro-OLED, 90Hz
  • Sharpness: about 36 pixels per degree, per Unseen Reality
  • Field of view: 90° diagonal, about 80° across and 56° tall
  • What your device sees: a 2560×1440 monitor at 90Hz, or 1080p on weaker ports
  • Brightness: about 120 nits at your eye, with no dimming
  • Fit: IPD adjusts by hand from 58 to 68 mm
  • Buttons: three, for brightness, volume, and mode and size

That brightness number looks low next to see-through glasses, but it isn't a fair match. See-through glasses have to beat the light coming through the lens. The URXR One's screens block outside light, so it doesn't need to.

Direct mode and Companion mode

Direct mode is plug and play. You get one big screen in four sizes, S, M, L and XL, switched with a button. No app, no account, no admin rights, so it works on a locked work laptop. Unseen Reality used to call this Bypass mode.

Companion mode needs the free URXR Connect app. It adds three or more virtual screens, an ultra-wide view, windows you grab and move with your hands, and immersive environments. Windows gets the app first, in November. Mac follows, then iOS and Android in December. Handhelds and consoles stay in Direct mode.

What plugs into it

Which features you get depends on how much power your device's USB-C port can give. Here's the short version, from Unseen Reality's FAQ:

Prescriptions

There are no focus dials. Unseen Reality's lens partner, HonsVR, makes magnetic inserts that take astigmatism. They cost $49.95 on sale when we checked, and they're ordered separately. Here's how to order URXR One lenses.

Should you buy one now?

It makes the most sense if you want a sharp, wide private monitor for a laptop. Small text is where Unseen Reality says it shines, and multiple screens are coming with the Windows app.

Hold off if any of these sound like you:

  • You mainly want it for a phone. Full features need the Power Hub, which ships in December.
  • You want to see the real world with your own eyes. Here, you see it through cameras.
  • You hate buying early. This is a first product from a new company, sold through Kickstarter. Unseen Reality itself says hardware timelines can move. Nobody has reviewed a shipping unit yet.

What we're watching

  • Whether the test batch lands smoothly, and when bigger batches follow
  • The Windows app in November, and a date for Mac
  • The Power Hub and iOS app, which wait on Apple's MFi certification
  • SDK, OpenXR and SteamVR plans, due in the November to December window
  • An update that brings side-by-side 3D to Direct mode
  • Reviews of retail units, not prototypes
